The Line is a participatory performance in which a spatial, and consequently social, system is gradually established in front of the audience. Starting from the simple need for a line to be spoken, transmitted and shared, the performance develops as an inevitable sequence of rules, roles, proposals, rights and procedures, with each new rule emerging in response to a problem produced by the previous one: in an attempt to protect the participants, distribute responsibility and enable their freedom, the system becomes increasingly complex and increasingly (in)capable of organizing the said freedom.

DORA or I’m Here but on Another Stage is a lecture-performance that grew out of the production DORA or Who Will Stitch the Vests? (Andreja Kargačin and Dora A, BITEF Theatre, 2025). The production emerged in the context of student and civic protests and is based on letters exchanged by the author with her friend Dora A., an activist living in exile. The performance explores ques-tions of absence, friendship and the power of art to reshape reality.
In this lecture-performance, the spotlight is on Natalija Stepanović, the actress portraying Dora in the original production. In addition to Dora, who is in exile, Andreja is also absent from the stage, as she is currently undertaking an artistic residency in Germany. Natalija reflects on what has changed in society, as well as in the private and artistic lives of the production’s authors; on what acting means to her; and on whether emigration is an inevitability.
