About the play
According to Time magazine, The Father is the play of the decade, and The Guardian named it the play of the year. A deeply sincere and moving drama about family, life, and emotions. In many ways, this intimate story will make the audience both laugh and cry. A play that makes us think about the transience of life. The Father has been staged in more than 45 countries around the world and translated into many world languages. It was performed for the first time in North Macedonia at the “Jordan Hadži Konstantinov – Džinot” theater in Veles, with Jordan Vitanov in the title role. The success of the performance is also evidenced by the fact that
since its premiere, there has been a high demand for tickets
for The Father.
About the writer
Florian Zeller (1979, Paris) is a French playwright, novelist, theater director, and filmmaker. Zeller wrote his first novel, Artificial Snow, at the age of 22, and with the novel The Fascination of Evil, he became known to a wider audience in France. Between 2004 and 2020, Zeller wrote more than 10 plays. His plays have achieved great success not only in France but also around the world. During this period, a unique “family” trilogy was created, consisting of the plays The Father, The Mother, and The Son. The play The Father is his most famous work, for which he has received many awards, including the Molière Award for Best Play and Best Performance. Zeller directed his first feature film in 2019, The Father, which he adapted from his own play. The film was awarded two Oscars and two BAFTA awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor. In 2023, he was decorated with the French order of the Legion of Honor.
About the director
Nenad Vitanov (1986, Veles), theatre director from North Macedonia. In 2005, he enrolled at the University of Montenegro, at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts – Department of Theater Direction, which he successfully completed in 2009. During his studies, he assisted famous directors at the Montenegrin National Theatre. He is also engaged in writing plays for the theater. At the international competition for the source of the best new play from the area of the former Yugoslavia “Our Man”, Vitanov wins the competition and his play Saint Pauli, Erotic Strasse 23 is staged in the Herceg Novi Theater. After completing his basic studies, he enrolled at ESRA University – Skopje, for master’s studies in theater art. In his career, he has directed over 20 theater plays in several theaters, and his plays have been selected at several theater festivals and have received awards. He is employed at the National Theater “Jordan Hadži Konstantinov – The Giant” in Veles.
