Biography

Theatre director, full professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, head of the Laboratory for Performing Arts at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. She studied at the Sorbonne, France, under Professor Anne Ubersfeld; as a scholar of the Fulbright Program at New York University in the department of performative studies under professor Richard Schechner. She has participated and lectured at the European Theatre Convention in Bochum. She is the president of the organizing committee of the World Congress of the International Federation for Theatre Research, which was held in Belgrade. She has directed more than 120 performances. Performances have appeared in the following festivals: Bitef, MESS Sarajevo, Ohrid Summer in North Macedonia, Meeting of Small Stages in Nova Gorica, (Slovenia), Golden Lion Festival, Umag (Croatia), Theatre City Budva Festival (Montenegro), Festival „Joakim Vujić”, Interfest, Kragujevac, Theatre festival in Banjaluka and worldwide festivals in Edinburgh (UK), “La MaMa” Experimental Theatre Club, New York (USA); Mittelfest, Cividale (Italy), “Dimitria Festival”, Thessaloniki (Greece); Sibiu International Theatre Festival (Romania); International Adana Theater Festival (Turkey); performances have been staged in Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Berlin, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Maribor, Skopje. She was the artistic director of the Bitef Theatre from 1990 to 1997, as well as the General Manager of the Beton Hala Theatre from 1999 to 2011. She was the General Manager of the National Theatre, the only full-time female general manager, from 2018 to 2021. As a translator and editor, she has enriched theatre literature with books by Richard Schechner, Eugenio Barba, Janelle Reinelt, and Maria Shevtsova. She has curated the following festivals: FIAT, Podgorica (Montenegro) from 1996 to 1998; Belef from 1997 to 1999; Comedy Days Festival in Jagodina from 2014 to 2015. Since 2018, she has been a member of the executive board of the International Federation for Theatre Research. She has won numerous awards for her innovative directorial approach, as well as the Order of Academic Palms of the French Republic.
